I did a lot of research about the different types of 'alternative' metals out there. Gold is still classic but somewhat expensive. It also scratches and tarnishes easier, it may lose its shape quicker but can be re-sized.
Platinum is also another choice if you can afford it. It's heavier but does not tarnish like gold will. It will however scratch more but can be re-sized.
Titanium is very popular and has a lot of new colors and designs. It's stronger than gold and scratch resistant. However it cannot be re-sized or in some cases very hard to have removed in an emergency since it cannot be easily cut off.
Tungsten carbide is one of the newest alternative metals. It is stronger than Titanium but they have made it so than in an emergency you can shatter it. This however has proved to be a problem since you can drop it just right and it shatters. I had a uncle that this happened too. If it is chipped or cracked it has to be completely replaced.

| Tungsten vs cobalt |
Then there is Cobalt or Cobalt Chrome. The newest metal on the jewelery market. After much research I came across the Scott Kay line. He has brought out contemporary looking rings for guys who want to have another option besides Titanium or Tungsten. We fell in love with his rings. And two weeks ago purchased one for David. We're quite happy with it. In fact, David won't take it off. He's proudly wearing it around already. If you happen to see him ask and he'll show off his 'bling' as he puts it. :) It's funny how fast he's become attached to it. One more thing off the list! Yay :)
